LaToya Twyman is an author, educator, entrepreneur, creative, holistic practitioner, and homeschool mother whose work sits at the intersection of education, healing, culture, and generational advancement. She is the founder and home educator behind Radiant Scholars Academy, an intentionally small homeschool educational program created from the belief that children deserve more than academic instruction. They deserve to be known, understood, challenged, culturally affirmed, and given the tools to understand themselves and the world around them.

LaToya's approach to education is shaped by both professional expertise and lived experience.

For more than two decades, she has personal and professional experience working with individuals and families navigating complex life circumstances. As a Workforce Development Specialist, she helped formerly incarcerated individuals develop employment skills and work toward economic stability. Her experience as a Case Manager included supporting individuals affected by mental illness, substance dependency, homelessness, and housing instability, including mothers and their children. She has also served in roles involving mental health support, intake and assessment, program administration, family services, and end-of-life care.

Those experiences taught her something that would later become foundational to Radiant Scholars Academy: behavior is communication, safety affects learning, and a child's circumstances should never be mistaken for a measure of their potential.

Her experience as a foster mother deepened that understanding. Caring for children affected by trauma, instability, separation, and transition gave LaToya firsthand insight into how profoundly a child's environment can influence emotional regulation, trust, confidence, behavior, and academic engagement.

LaToya has also pursued training in holistic wellness, hypnotherapy, herbalism, health and wellness, and trauma-informed care. Rather than separating emotional wellness from education, she incorporates principles of mindfulness, emotional literacy, self-awareness, nervous-system regulation, resilience, and psychological safety into the learning environment.

But Radiant Scholars Academy is not built around healing alone.

It is built around preparation.

LaToya is also an experienced entrepreneur and business strategist who has helped structure and develop businesses across multiple industries, including trucking, acquisition services, retail, and creative entrepreneurship. That experience influences her commitment to teaching children concepts that traditional education may introduce too late, including financial literacy, entrepreneurship, ownership, leadership, critical thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to turn ideas into something tangible.

At Radiant Scholars Academy, rigorous academics coexist with creativity. Cultural education exists alongside mathematics and science. Emotional intelligence matters alongside reading comprehension. Children learn about African and Black history and the African diaspora while also developing an understanding of the larger world around them. Montessori-inspired exploration, experiential learning, financial literacy, art, mindfulness, research, field experiences, and project-based learning all have a place.

LaToya does not believe education should require children to disconnect from their identity in order to succeed.

She believes education should help them understand it.

Why Radiant Scholars Academy Exists

Radiant Scholars Academy was created to provide a learning environment where academic development, emotional wellness, cultural identity, curiosity, creativity, and practical life preparation are treated as interconnected rather than competing priorities.

The academy currently serves an intentionally small foundational cohort, allowing LaToya to provide highly individualized instruction while developing, documenting, and refining the educational framework she has envisioned.

The goal is not simply to produce children who perform well academically.

It is to cultivate scholars who can read critically, communicate confidently, regulate their emotions, understand their history, manage money, question information, solve problems, create opportunities, advocate for themselves, recognize their own value, and enter adulthood knowing that they have both a voice and choices.

For LaToya, education is ultimately about more than preparing children for the next grade.

It is about preparing them for ownership of their lives.
